When it's not an off-kilter jingle, it's a riotously dumb lyrical showcase in the vein of Katamari Damacy. Octodad could have easily been a one-joke game, but it just keeps introducing new ways to make its protagonist's movement fresh and amusing, like squeezing between freezer shelves and sorting oversized power cords.ĭadliest Catch is that rare kind of game that brings together all of its elements for a single, focused purpose: to make the audience chuckle despite (or because of) the overwhelming stupidity of it all.
What's most impressive is how consistently funny it is. Watching a tuxedo-garbed cephalopod flop and whirl around a room just trying to get through a door is comedic gold that everyone should experience.
Dadliest Catch has both of those thanks to its lovably goofy characters, but it also does the impossible by making the gameplay itself hilarious. Think QWOP, except with grocery shopping instead of Olympic running.Ĭomedy has never really stuck as an accepted game genre, possibly because it usually only applies to non-gameplay aspects like writing and visuals. The challenge comes from a lack of bones and the fact that his tentacles must be manoeuvred individually. Unorthodox mouse controls must be used to guide Octodad through everyday life without raising the suspicion of those around him. Both games star an unnamed octopus whom, for reasons left entirely to the player's imagination, has spent his life masquerading as a suburban father. Dadliest Catch manages to be inviting for both newcomers and fans of the first game by imagining an astonishing variety of new uses for its predecessor's established mechanics. Complete the strange "operation" to clear the stage.The original Octodad, a 2010 freeware student project, was one of the most delightfully original premises in years. Assist the doctor by handing him tools, and Octodad will eventually have to assist with the operation itself grab the "chest plate" to open it, and clear the "chest cavity" by simply throwing out its contents. The final tie can be found by using the X-ray machine: press the button on it, stand under the "ray," and an X-ray will pop out, followed by a tie (3/3).
In a cabinet to the far right of the room, behind some rolls of paper towels, is a tie (2/3) hidden from view. Push him through the doors to the prep room to the right and follow the onscreen instructions. Let go of the table and squeeze through to get to the crowbar on the other side, which you can use to get the doors open. After raising the side flaps of the bed by simply grabbing at them, wheel his bed down the hall until you hit the door. Handle the medical emergency in 205 by picking up the patient and placing him on the bed. After the odd scene, go back to the nurses' station, where Octodad can pick up the phone as it rings. Pick up the flashlight on the nearby table to shine a light in her eyes, and draw anything on the white board. Fill the pressure meter by grabbing the red pump repeatedly, at a rapid pace (you'll know you're making progress when the meter next to her rises). Lastly, there's the patient between them in 203. Grab him a book from the lobby and then bring him a new IV from the cabinet near his room. Then, bring the four slices of watermelon up to his face with the fork to feed him.
In room 205, adjust the patient's bed by pulling on the end of it. Fortunately, you can shake the bag of donuts within the machine, allowing Octodad to pick up a single donut that will satisfy the patient. You can insert the bills into the machine, but the donuts (inconveniently located on the top row) will get stuck, requiring Octodad to reach in and grab them himself. The patient will give Octodad a wad of cash for donuts, which he can find in the vending machine in the lobby.

You must now help three patients nearby: the first, in room 201, requires you to turn off the TV (you can try to press both buttons, but the TV will inevitably break, resulting in a technically completed objective) and fluff her pillow (shake it out) for your next objective. Look through the filing cabinet to find the patient records they can be found in the center drawer to the right, but the drawer below it (filled with limes) is where a tie (1/3) can be found. What could go wrong? Complete the first objective by stepping through the door and behind the desk.
