You can select not only the style of grain, but also the granularity and impact the grain has on the image.Capture One 21 now has a Dehaze tool, though the effect is unlike Lightroom's, with a more traditional looking contrast boost rather than Lightroom's psuedo-HDR look (if you push it to extremes). And the Grain tool is one of the best I’ve ever used. The changes in each colour channel are subtle but effective.

I really enjoy Black & White photography as well, and I find the B&W controls in Capture One Pro to be awesome. All without leaving Capture One! Black & White Photography A mask displays exactly the area you’re affecting and you can even control the Opacity of that particular layer. You can create a layer from a colour selection using the Advanced Colour Editor tool and fine tune your layer with a few brush strokes or gradients. You can name the layers so you know exactly what they are and what type of layer it is, i.e. This is a big one! Although you can have similar function in Lightroom using the Adjustment Brush with each adjustment being a different ‘point’ on your image, Capture One allows you to work in actual layers, similar to PhotoShop. I use Sessions for my professional work, one for each photo-shoot, which I use to download, edit, and deliver final images to my clients. Catalogs are similar to Lightroom, but Sessions are totally unique to Capture One. Now that I’ve been using it for several years, I absolutely love it! I find the images have better colour and definition right from the initial download, the controls are smooth with more options for ultimate adjustments of your RAW images.Ĭapture One also allows you to work in either Catalogs or Sessions. To keep up with my work load, I needed a faster computer or faster software, and moving to Capture One was the least expensive option. The reason I looked at Capture One was that Lightroom was running unbearably slow on my aging Mac Pro computer. I switched from Adobe Lightroom in 2015 and never looked back.
